June 2020

Young people with disabilities won’t be excluded anymore from environmental and sustainable development issues. This is the goal of Erasmus Plus funded project INSIDEE (INclusion through Sustainable Development and European Eco-citizenship)

The project kick-off meeting took place on the 3rd and 4th of June 2020 on an online platform due to the current travel restrictions in Europe.

It was organized by the Partner Coordinator Au Fil de la Vie (FR) and counted with the presence of representatives from all partners organisations. Some dedicated to the support of disabled people like Nyama nevazmozhni neshta (BG) and Verdiblanca (ES), some specialized in environmental education and project management: Alimos Soc Coop (IT), Ecological Future Education (LV) and Euridea (IT).

Young people with disabilities are often exclude from environmental concerns and sustainable development issue because of a lack of adapted support. However, they have the same needs as the common public regarding information and understanding of their environment, discovery of nature, origin of their food etc. in order to better control their consumption and to measure their environmental footprint.

The INSIDEE project aims to develop the knowledge of young people with intellectual and mental disabilities in terms of sustainable development and provide them with the necessary skills to become active and responsible European eco-citizen. Our goal is to support their commitment, self-determination and empowerment through popular education activities and promoting access to rights and information.

Our approach will be in the „nothing about us without us“ logic and thus youths with disabilities will be part of every stage of the project’s life to define their specific needs, to design the training and the materials and then to allow them to become Eco-ambassadors and share their new skills with their friends and family.

In the next few months, Euridea will lead a research to identify which knowledge is currently lacking and highlight differences and similarities within the countries represented by the partners. We will conduct interviews with opinion leaders and will publish our results online on communication tools that will be shortly provided..
